Buffy Scholar/Critic

Jesse Stommel is a recent Ph.D. graduate from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he currently teaches as an instructor.  His teaching and scholarly work runs the gamut from film and television theory to digital media to contemporary American literature.  His recent work focuses on postmodern bodies and disembodiment:  mechanical bodies, dead bodies, undead bodies, bodies in pieces, posthuman bodies, and abject bodies.  His doctoral dissertation, "Pity Poor Flesh," offers a critical and philosophical exploration of automata, corpses, and zombies as they are figured in contemporary media.

He lives in Denver with his partner Josh, his clever dog Mary, and two mischievous cats, Loki and Odin.  All are fans of Buffy.  His personal website can be found at www.jessestommel.com.  The digital companion to his dissertation can be found at www.pitypoorflesh.com.
