Buffy Scholar/Critic

Alyson Buckman is an Associate Professor of Humanities and Religious Studies at California State University, Sacramento.  She teaches and conducts research in the areas of American Studies, gender, film, and popular culture.  She also co-chairs the Science Fiction and Fantasy Area of the Southwest/Texas Popular Culture/American Culture Association.  In addition to her work on Alice Walker and Octavia Butler, she has published most recently in Screwball Television: Critical Perspectives on Gilmore Girls, Investigating Firefly and Serenity, and Sexual Rhetoric in the Works of Joss Whedon.  She is proud to state that her children know all of the words to the “Once More With Feeling” and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog soundtracks.  “Nerds are in. They’re still in, right?”
